This page explains how to set up the email settings of Survey Area
Assuming you have finished setting up SurveyArea3 to work with your GPS, you can now proceed to set up SurveyArea3 to be able to send email.
Why would you want to do this? Well, this is a very easy way to get measurement results from you Pocket PC to your desktop computer. It can send the files to yourself or any other email account of your choice. SurveyArea3 will simply send it to you as email attachments! You can even send it to someone right there from the field if you have remote email capability using a cellular phone connection. Otherwise the mail just get transferred as soon as you synchronize your PPC with you desktop computer through ActiveSync. SurveyArea uses Pocket Outlook for sending the email, and unfortunately this only works in WM 2005 devices.
Please note : If you do not supply a destination email address, you will not see an "Email" button. Instead the button will just say "Save" instead.
Here is how to set it up:
Step 1 : Select the "Settings" tab in the bottom of the screen and then select "Email Settings" in the row just above that.
The following parameters apply to this screenshot:
|Account||Select the mail account to use from whom the email will be sent. If you are not using remote email facilities, then it is best to select "ActiveSync" here.|
|To||Email account to where the email will be sent|
|Cc||Send a carbon copy to a different email address.|
|Subject||This will be displayed in the subject line of the email message.|
|Google Earth KML||If ticked, a Google Earth KML file will be attached to the email message.|
|ESRI Shapefile||If ticked, an Esri Shapefile will be attached to the email message. This actually consists of three different files namely *.SHP, *.DBF and *.SHX|
|GPS Track (txt)||If ticked, a GPS Track file (in text format) will be attached to the email message.|
All settings will be remembered by the application when you exit. Each time you start the application the last used setting will be automatically applied.
Step 2 : If you selected ActiveSync as your mail account, then you also have to make sure ActiveSync is set up to synchronize your email account. Do this on your desktop computer by opening ActiveSync, then clicking on Tools -> Options and making sure that Email syncronisation is ticked as shown in this screenshot below:
NB : If you experience a problem in SurveyArea3 where the mail with attachments cannot be sent because the attachments could not be included with the mail, then you probably need to do the following to resolve the problem.
Open Messaging. Select Menu -> Go To -> <Mail Account>
The Select Menu -> Options -> Storage. You will see a screen as shown below:
NB : If the "Store attachments on storage card" is ticked, then untick it. Otherwise tick it in order to see if it resolves the problem. In my case I experience this problem if this is ticked.
